In yet another first for India’s Mars Orbiter, Mangalyaan, the first of its kind Indian spacecraft sent back new stunning 3 Dimensional (3D) images of the Red Planet.
The images were taken by Mangalyaan’s Mars Colour Camera (MCC), at 4° south latitude and 72.5° west longitude.
The 3D images belong to the Ophir Chasma terrain of Mars, which is part of the Valles Marineris.
The word ‘Chasma’ stands for an elongated, steep-sided depression on the planet. The name was coined by the International Astronomical Union.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) also released a statement along with these pictures saying that the images were taken by Mangalyaan on July 19th, 2015 from an altitude of 1, 857 km.
