A Pakistan Parliamentary panel has asked the Nawaz Sharif government in Pakistan to avoid “encouraging” and supporting militant groups in Kashmir.

They asked the government to take action against these outfits involved in terrorist attacks and prove to the International community that Pakistan will deal with them sternly.

A four-page policy paper issued by the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs stated that Pakistan should not help the banned militant groups and should not extend any support to them in Kashmir.

The paper has series of suggestions and recommendations on the relations of India and Pakistan. They have suggested four key principles about Pakistan’s policy towards India which include reciprocity, reduction, resumption and result.

India from time to time has asked  Pakistan to take action against militant groups which are operating from their soil against India.

“Pakistan should continue seeking comprehensive engagement with India on all outstanding issues,” it said.

If the four principles doesn’t work well between the two countries, then the committee recommends that the government should engage with India about the other four important issues- Kashmir, water, trade, and culture and communication.

With regard to Kashmir, the committee has recommended that Pakistan should continue calling and make their efforts for the resolution of Kashmir dispute as it is the bone of contention in the relations between the two neighbours.

“A key component of Pakistan’s proactive involvement on the Kashmir issue should be lending solid diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmiris,” it said.

The committee has said that Pakistan should also focus more on reducing and controlling informal trade with India.

“This can be done through enhancing the capacity of the customs department and the border forces. Furthermore, by relaxing the process to acquire visa, informal trade can be controlled,” it said.

The panel has also recommended that issues related to water should be discussed on larger extent either than focusing on particular projects.

It stated that water related issues should be discussed in the backdrop of the Indus Water Treaty in international forums.

India has not officially reacted to this report. An official said that this report is the official acceptance of the reality that Pakistan indulges in supporting terrorism in Kashmir.

The authenticity of the report was not verified by the Indian officials.

Awais Ahmad Leghari of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) is heading this parliamentary panel.
