PM Modi’s Effort Paves Way For Steady Rise In Japanese Companies In India

In what seems to be good news in terms of rising investments in the country, there has been a steady rise in the number of Japanese companies in India.

According to the recent data, there was six percent increase in the Japanese firms in India as compared to last year.

As of October 2015, 1,229 firms were registered in the country. In 2013, the number was at 1,038.

In addition, the Japanese business establishments rose by 14 percent.

During 2013, India had 2,503 Japanese business establishments. By October 2015, it grew to 4, 417.

Haryana  has topped as the state which houses the maximum number of Japanese firms.

They are 305 firms in the state followed by  Maharashtra (203), Tamil Nadu (192), Karnataka (190) and Delhi (145).

It is believed that the increase has been largely due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomacy.

In 2014, Modi visited Japan and has stressed that Japan is a key partner in Make in India Initiative”—a programme aimed at boosting India’s manufacturing sector.

There are approximately 3,250-odd foreign firms operating in India.

After PM Modi stormed into power, multinationals like U.K. liquor company Diageo,  French energy company GDF SUEZ ; pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline; Sweden’s IKEA; Singapore Airlines; U.K. retailer Tesco; and Unilever, have promised to make long-term investments in the country.
