The movie ‘The Jungle Book’, which was released in our country a week before U.S., has become the highest-grossing Hollywood release ever in India.

The movie, inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s famous tales about Mowgli’s adventures, was directed by Jon Favreau.

It has broken the previous record of  ‘Furious 7’ by grossing Rs. 1.57 billion in its first 12 days.

While Furious 7 opened on 2, 800 screens, The Jungle Book opened on about 1,500 screens.

The movie was also dubbed into local languages, with those versions contributing over half of its box office in India.

The Hindi version of the movie has voices of Bollywood stars like Irrfan Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Om Puri and Nana Patekar.

Disney India vp- studios, Amrita Pandey told The Hollywood Reporter:

“We didn’t look at it as just a big Hollywood movie. We creatively treated it like a big Hindi movie release… We spent many days with our Hindi dialog writer to make each character’s dialogues locally relevant and nuanced with cultural references.”
