The government is now looking into a Rs 2,000-crore package for people displaced from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir living in India. This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised concern over to atrocities in Balochistan and PoK.
For this the J&K government has identified 36,348 such families from PoK, Balochistan, Baltistan and Gilgit, which will get around Rs 5.5 lakh each. Most of these persons are living in Jammu, Rajouri and Kathua.
The identification process of these families has already begun. The Home Minister will soon place the proposal before the Union Cabinet which will take the final decision.
Besides a financial package for the refugees who relocated to India in 1947, 1965 and 1971, the government is also looking to offer them employment opportunities.

Moreover, the Home Ministry is also looking at a financial package for Kashmir.
The displaced people can cast their votes in Lok Sabha polls but not in the elections to Jammu and Kashmir assembly.
The Modi government had in January 2015 approved certain concessions for the refugees from West Pakistan settled in Jammu and Kashmir after considering the problems being faced by them. These include special recruitment drives for induction into paramilitary forces, equal employment opportunities in the state and admission for children of refugees in Kendriya Vidyalayas.

Reports suggest that the government is also planning to invite the diaspora from PoK and Gilgit-Baltistan for the next Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas to be held in Bengaluru.
The prime minister had talked about the plight of people of PoK, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan in his address to the nation on Independence Day.
