If a media report is to be believed then National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has led the operations in which Indian Army carried out a surgical strike across LoC, destroying 7 terror “launchpads” or temporary bases used by militants – located between 1km and 3km across the LoC.

Doval has shared inputs received by Indian intelligence agencies with the Indian Army.

After doing complete preparations, Indian army’s special forces belonging to the 9th Para hit many terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied- Kashmir (PoK).

Lieutenant-General Ranbir Singh, India’s Director-General of Military Operations (DGMO), has said the strikes, which took place “along the Line of Control” caused “significant damage” but offered no further details. No causalities on the Indian side were reported.

A surgical strike is defined as a military attack intended to inflict damage on a specific target, with little or no collateral damage to surrounding areas. A surgical strike is “a calculated manoeuvre to ensure you deliver maximum damage which gives a big surprise to your adversary”, explained former air chief Fali Homi Major.

Pakistan’s military said that two of its soldiers were killed when troops “exchanged fire across the Line of Control” in an engagement which began at 2:30 a.m. and ended at 8:00a.m.

“The operations aimed at neutralising the terrorists have since ceased,” Ranbir Singh said.

Islamabad promptly denied the claim and said it would respond strongly if India try a military raid on its soil.

There have been demands from all quarters of a strong response to Uri attacks, that New Delhi said was carried out by militants based mostly across the LoC.

The strikes could be seen as Prime Minister Narendra Modi following through on his warning that those responsible for the attack “would not go unpunished”. The Indian army had also said it would avenge the attack at a time and place of its choosing.

As per a report in Bloomberg, Ajit Doval, who was selected by PM Narendra Modi as India’s National Security Advisor (NSA), is the most powerful person in India after the PM.

Interestingly, Ajit Doval spent seven years undercover in Pakistan and recruited rebels as informants in disputed Kashmir.
