Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has questioned the “loyalty” of those who doubted the Army and sought proof of surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC) even as he made it clear that there is no need to give out any video of the operation.

Describing the cross-LoC operation as “100 per cent perfect surgical strike”, he said the borders of the country are secure under the Narendra Modi government.

“Someone said that I am a straight-forward (seedha-saadha). I think the Defence Minister should not be straight when it comes to ensuring the safety of the country. In matters of the country’s defence, I can think tedha (be wily),” he said.

Without calling the names, he warned that one has to remain vigilant against “certain elements” who don’t owe their loyalty to the country completely.

“No one had doubted bravery of our forces ever, but for the first time recently some people are doubting,” he said.

Referring to a report in which a Pakistani police officer has admitted that surgical strikes did happen, Parrikar said, “There is now no more reason to release video or to give any proof.”

He also said that some ex-servicemen have expressed their willingness to fight on the border if need arises. “I salute them,” said the minister, adding, “Our nation carries the heart and courage to carry this task out.”

He said due to surgical strikes some “frustrated” terrorists may attack and in view of this the forces and citizens will have to be vigilant.

In what looks like a move by the BJP to cash in on the surgical strikes in PoK, Parrikar will be felicitated at two different functions in Lucknow on October 6.

BJP workers in the state capital have put up big hoardings thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Parrikar for “teaching a lesson to Pakistan.”

Earlier in Varanasi, the Prime Minister’s constituency, Shiv Sena worker Ajay Chaubey put up posters backing the surgical strikes. The posters carry the Shiv Sena symbol with images and messages announcing ‘Ramroopi Narendra Modiji’, ‘Ravanroopi Pakistan ka ant ho’, ‘Meghnadroopi Kejriwal… Pakistan ke samarthak’. These posters call for more surgical strikes.
