Should Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan get a Nobel Peace Prize for his extraordinary ‘peace gesture’ of releasing IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Vartaman? Think I am delusional? Well, I am not but a minister in Pakistan certainly is! It turns out that Pakistan’s Information and Broadcast Minister Chaudhary Fawad Hussain submitted a resolution in National Assembly soon after the release of captured Indian pilot.

In the resolution, he stated that Pakistan’s PM Imran Khan played a ‘sagacious’ role during the Indo-Pak tension and should be awarded Nobel Peace Prize. Think we are kidding? Have a look:

On March 1, Pakistani Twitter users demanded peace prize for the PM. Soon the #NobelPeacePrizeForImranKhan became viral. People were demanding the prize for Imran Khan on the ground: “Nobel Peace Prize for 2020 for his peace efforts and dialogues in the Asian region on diverse conflicts (e.g. Pakistan-India, Afghanistan-USA, Middle East etc.)”. Here are some of the tweets from our neighbors:

Indians, however, couldn’t wrap their heads around this demand. Naturally, they came up with endless humor to justify the ridiculousness of the situation. Journalists, celebs, and common people, all shared their reaction on this demand. Here are some of the comments:

The question is: ‘Are the Indians right in mocking this demand?’ If you see a few of the recent situations then you might tend to agree with Indian Twitterati. On the day IAF Wing Commander Abhinanda was released, Pakistan blatantly violated ceasefire that injured and killed CRPF personnel. Furthermore, during a recent interview with foreign media, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said:

‘Pakistan is not sure of Jaish’s involvement in the Pulwama terror attack.’

However, when the interviewer persisted that the terror group has claimed the responsibility for Pulwama attack then he said that they have contacted Jaish leadership and they are denying any responsibility. Take a look:

Also, in another interview he said this about Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar:

‘He is in Pakistan according to my information, he is very unwell. He is unwell to the extent that he can’t leave his house.’

In this scenario, asking for peace prize for a PM whose Minister is so sure about activities of a terror outfit seems ironic. Furthermore, there is no denying the fact that there is a role international pressure behind this ‘peace gesture’ of Pakistan. What do you think about this Nobel Prize demand for Imran Khan? Share your thoughts in the comments.
