Kick starting their promise to convert many Indian cities into ‘Smart Cities,’ the BJP government on Thursday released a list of cities where development under the #Smartcity Mission will begin.
Union Minister of Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu revealed the names of the cities on Thursday.
An amount of Rs.48,000 crore has been allocated for the development of the 100 smart cities.
Each smart city would get a Central assistance of Rs.100 crore per year for five years.
Ninety-eight cities are in the list and two more will be added soon.
The list includes 24 state capitals but, surprisingly, excludes Kolkata, Patna and Bengaluru.
