Over the past few years, Bollywood actresses seem to be making great strides as far as speaking up for socially relevant issues goes. There was a time only the likes of Pooja Bhatt were outspoken enough to call a spade a spade. Now there’s quite a few Bolly actresses who seem to care about what happens to their kind in the world at large.
In a recent video, Priyanka Chopra, opened up about how difficult it is to be born a girl in India. She went on to question, and rubbish, this notion of girls being considered “paraya dhan“.
It’s very very difficult to be a girl in India, since the time we are born we are not valued enough as compared to the boys, We are told that a girl is ‘paraya dhan’ (belong to others). If a family doesn’t have a son then when somebody dies they don’t get heaven.
Priyanka, who is an ambassador for Girl Rising, the campaign to improve girls’ education globally; and Girl Up, a United Nations foundation, laid emphasis on the importance of educating the daughters of the nation, so that they can break out of the position of second-class citizen that their lack of education forces them into.
Happy Teachers Day.Every girl deserves an education & together,we can make it happen @GirlRisingIndia #IAmGirlRising pic.twitter.com/WPd3jln5yr
