Despite facing repeated queries and made fun of, a Tamil Nadu woman, who as named ‘India’ by her late father, says she is proud of her name.
The 24-year-old woman told PTI, “It was my father R Elangovan’s spirit of nationalism that prompted him to name me India. He was a social worker and a staunch nationalist.”
A BSc computer science graduate from Bharathidasan University said that she has been both praised and mocked for her name.
“I have been praised and also mocked for my name India. I have never bothered about it nor felt carried away by the praise,” she says.
The woman added that she has participated in several competitions and had sung many songs of nationalist, revolutionary poet Subramania Bharathi during her school and college days.
She recently got married in Thanjavur today to J Stalin in a simple traditional ceremony.
