India is one of the largest countries in south Asia and seventh largest in the world by area. It is bestowed with diverse geographical landscapes and immense natural beauty. But do you know that there are some places in the country where you are not allowed to visit?
Below is a list of places in India where you are not allowed to visit or entry is prohibited:
1. Aksai Chin, Jammu and Kashmir
Aksai Chin is one of the two large disputed border areas between India and China. The line that separates Indian-administered areas of J&K from Aksai Chin is known as the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and is concurrent with the Chinese Aksai Chin claim line. It is also referred to as one of the most dangerous places in the world.
2. Bhangarh Fort, Rajesthan
Located in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, Bhangarh Fort is a 17th century fort infamous all over India for being one of the most haunted places in the country because of the numerous ghostly experiences and happenings in the fort premises. One can visit this fort under certain conditions but permission to this fort is denied after sunset.
3. Nicobar Islands
Nicobar Islands are untouched and pristine. UNESCO has declared the islands as one of the world network of biosphere reserves. Visiting certain areas of the islands is possible if you are granted permission by the local authorities, but the tribal belts are completely out of bounds, unless for research purposes.
4. Cholamu Lake
Cholamu lake is the highest lake in India. It is situated in North Sikkim, only some 4 kilometres southwest of the Chinese border. One needs special permission from Army and Sikkim police/administration to visit the lake.
5. Siachen Glacier
The Siachen Glacier is located in the eastern Karakoram range in the Himalayas where the Line of Control between India and Pakistan ends. This is the highest military point in the world and normal people are not permitted to visit.
6. North Sentinel Island, Andaman
North Sentinel Island is a part of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is home to an indigenous tribe known as Sentinelese. It is said that they don’t have much knowledge about outside world and thus they don’t welcome outsiders. The entry to this place is prohibited by the Indian Government.
7. Chambal River Basin, Madhya Pradesh
This is one of the places which showcases India’s beauty. The location has been featured in several Bollywood films. However, the place is usually avoided by visitors because of the active dacoits in the region.
8. Bastar, Chhattisgarh
Bastar, a district in Chhattisgarh, is replete with picturesque waterfalls and natural beauty. But since it falls in the red corridor and Naxalite activities are rampant in the area, it makes it a dangerous place for travelling.
9. Barren Islands, Andaman
Barren Islands in Andaman Islands is home to the only active volcano in India. You can see red-hot lava and smoke erupting from the mouth of the volcano from a far distance, but no one is allowed to get any closer to the hill due to safety reasons.
10. Uno-In hotel, Bengaluru
This hotel in Bengaluru was set up in 2012 and only Japanese were allowed to enter in the hotel. However, the hotel was shut down by the Greater Bengaluru City Corporation in 2014 on charges of racial discrimination.
